Facilitators

Lead a Restorative Justice Conference

Committed volunteers become facilitators by learning and practicing how to lead a restorative justice conference. Facilitators empower those affected by and responsible for crime. Restorative justice is distinguished from the US criminal justice system because people like you, who don’t necessarily have specialized training and experience before coming to LCJP, can volunteer with us to make this revolutionary justice process available in Longmont. 

• Responsibilities: Lead a restorative justice conference according to LCJP’s model and training

• Commitment: 1 Conference/Month or 10-12 hours per-month. Conferences primarily occur on weekday afternoons and evenings,  as well as occasional Saturday mornings.

Training: 2-Hour Restorative Practices Orientation, 2-Hour Community Member Training, 16-Hour Restorative Justice Facilitator Training, Ongoing Coaching and Education through LCJP’s Coaching and Mentoring Program

Events and Outreach

LCJP staff and volunteers educate the community about restorative justice at a wide range of community outreach events each month. Examples of annually recurring events include Longmont’s Cinco de Mayo Festival and Front Range Community College Volunteerism & Career Fairs. In addition, LCJP hosts parties and social events for volunteers, community stakeholders, donors, and the public throughout the year. Volunteers play an integral role in the success of these fun and lively events, including the annual Volunteer Appreciation Party, New Year’s Open House, Fundraising events and more!    

• Responsibilities: Working with LCJP’s Volunteer and Training Coordinator to plan and execute logistics for these events. This may include set-up and clean-up, speaking with the public about LCJP, promoting events, and seeking In-Kind donations or sponsorships.

• Commitment: Ongoing and Scheduled on an “As Needed” Basis

• Skills you Bring: Enthusiasm for event planning, meeting new people, and informing others about Restorative Justice

Training: 1:1 consultations with LCJP’s Volunteer and Training Coordinator prior to each event

Community Members

represent the community in restorative justice conferences

Community Members are essential in restorative justice. Speaking from personal perspective to identify how the broader community is affected by crime, LCJP’s community members ensure that the reparative agreements in the Responsible Person’s contract are fair to the participants and the community. They do this by listening to the harmed and responsible persons, giving input on how the community was harmed, and working together with the harmed and responsible persons to create the restorative justice contract. 

• Responsibilities: Participate in a restorative justice conference as a community member 

• Commitment: 1-2 Conferences/Month or 3-6 hours per month, usually in afternoons and/or evenings 

Training: 2-Hour Restorative Practices Orientation, 2-Hour Community member Training, Ongoing Support from LCJP’s Staff and Facilitators

Administrative Support

Give your Time and talents in the Office

Behind the scenes, volunteers support LCJP with a vast array of administrative projects that keep the organization thriving. Whether you have a specialized talent from years of working in an office, or are simply looking for a more routine way to support LCJP during daytime hours, LCJP can match you with a way to help in our welcoming Main Street Office. Administrative Support Volunteers are carefully matched with responsibilities after meeting with LCJP’s Volunteer and Training Coordinator.

• Responsibilities: Working with LCJP’s Volunteer and Training Coordinator on various administrative tasks including assembling training materials, preparing mailings, data entry, season office decoration, calling other volunteers to notify them of program updates, and more! 

• Commitment: Ongoing; Can either be on an “As Needed” Basis or with an established, recurring schedule

Training: 1:1 consultations with LCJP’s Volunteer and Training Coordinator prior to each event
