Process

We use a variety of restorative processes and practices in our services. These include but are not limited to:

 

Community Group Conferences

  • Address crime & school rules violations
  • Focuses on repairing the harm done to victims & community
  • Helps offenders make better future choices

Used for:

  • Crime and conflict with a clear victim
  • Crimes or conflicts involving one or more offenders who have taken responsibility for their actions

 

Restorative Circles

  • Address crimes & school rule violations
  • The victim & offender roles not so clearly defined
  • Gives people opportunity to take responsibility for harm

Used for:

  • "Victimless crimes" such as alcohol & drug use
  • Crime involving mutual responsibility, such as some school fights & harassment

 

Peacemaking Circles

  • Address ongoing conflicts
  • There may be no specific crime but a history of hostility between parties

Used for:

  • Resolution between rival gangs
  • Conflict between employees or other groups

 

Other valuable information:

  • All LCJP Restorative Justice processes are available in Spanish & English.
  • Over a thousand people have participated in LCJP’s restorative processes.
  • On average 97% of victim, 96% of offenders & 98% of community members are satisfied with their restorative justice experience with LCJP.

 

How do you do it?

A fee of $75 is charged to the offender in most LCJP restorative justice processes to offset the cost of coordinating and conducting the circle, and providing case management.

 

Financial Assistance is available. Applications in English and Spanish are available upon request. No one is turned away for financial reasons.
